About Us
Mission
MyMaryland.net makes it easy for Maryland voters to learn about and contact their elected officials. We do this by creating the first ever 24/7 online town halls where both voters and their officials are verified. MyMaryland is a project of MyAmerica, Inc., 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are guided by our civic mission of using the Internet to empower regular people to be heard, strengthen government transparency and accountability, and reduce the influence of money in politics.
How It Works
While an informed and engaged citizenry is essential to representative democracy, 90% of us never contact our officials. But who can blame us?
We’re all busy and traditional ways to contact our representatives such as emails and phone calls are closed interactions that often go unheard. But what if you could go online at any time and join a town hall discussion with your officials and all of your fellow voters in your district? And what if all of the most important info – your official’s sponsored bills, recent votes, and campaign finances – was all in one place and updated in real time? What if you could ask them questions, exchange ideas, and rally support?
This is why we created MyMaryland.net. We envision a better republic, one where officials are much closer to the people they represent. MyMaryland is a pilot in the state of Maryland. If successful, we want to bring our platform to all 50 states and fundamentally transform representative democracy by revolutionizing the relationship between voters and elected officials.
